Welcome to the Leibniz ScienceCampus Digital Public Health Bremen (LSC DiPH)!

From our initial phase, focused on probing digital public health (DiPH) concepts and applications, we're stepping into a new chapter. Here you can find out more about our work in the first phase. Now, in the second phase, our focus shifts to putting our discoveries into practice. We're committed to addressing real-world public health challenges and making a lasting impact on population health.

LSC DiPH comprises a team of more than 80 members from the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS, the University of Bremen, the University of Oldenburg, OFFIS e.V. and the Fraunhofer MEVIS Institute. This combination of expertise forms the core of our campus, fostering collaboration between public health researchers, technology experts, and other diverse fields.

As we continue, we invite you to engage with us on this journey. Together, we're shaping the future of public health through research, collaboration, and a focus on leveraging technology to meet the needs of society.

Welcome to the LSC DiPH community!

Research

Our work in phase 2 focuses on the implementation, application, and extension of findings from phase 1 to real-world public health issues, as well as the development of a self-sufficient funding structure beyond the timeframe of the current application. As digitalization continues to be a core issue in the modernization and adaptation of public health and health systems, there is a need for high-quality interdisciplinary research to proactively shape this development rather than merely following technological advances. Key issues include improving accessibility and equity of digital public health, developing and applying appropriate methods to produce high-quality evidence to support public health decision-making, and systematically outlining and determining needs and opportunities for digital technology in public health. LSC DiPH is situated at the center of these issues. Read more.

Research Cluster

Digital Divide and Health Equity

This Research Cluster aims to provide solutions to bridge the digital divide and increase digital health equity.

Research in this RC investigates digital health literacy, new approaches to participatory development of DiPH approaches, and challenges that the public health workforce faces with increasing digitalization.

It investigates how inequality both between and within countries and societies can be described and addressed. Learn more.

Digitalization in Prevention

This Research Cluster aims to generate quality standards for digital tools and pilot their implementation to address major public health problems. Due to the dynamics in the field, there is a lack of established indicators for decision-making and of suitable methods for the evaluation of digital tools. Systematic research is missing on the transferability of analogue concepts in public health into digital formats and into complementary aspects. Learn more.

Human-Digital Interactions in DiPH

This Research Cluster provides approaches to improve how humans interact with digital health technology. Focusing on data protection, privacy and ethics. Health risks resulting from interacting with digital environments are addressed, as well as extended reality technologies. We also investigate the spread of health-related misinformation in social media and a lack of trust in evidence-based online health information. Learn more.
